Gordian III, 238-244. Aureus (Gold, 21 mm, 5.14 g, 7 h), Rome, 241-243. IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III to right, seen from behind. Rev. VIRTVTI AVGVSTI Hercules standing front, head to right, holding his right hand behind his back and leaning left on club set on rock; lion's skin draped over club. Calicó 3242. Cohen 401. RIC 108. A lovely example with a very attractive reverse. A few minor marks, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
